Our Field Ops teams operate on the ground and on the move, in both small towns and big cities, to deliver high-quality communications and entertainment products to our customers. We play an essential, visible role in keeping these communities connected by installing, maintaining and troubleshooting to optimize the performance and reliability of our network. 


As a Maintenance Technician III, you are a strategic problem-solver with attention to detail which will allow you to maintain Spectrum’s HFC and equipment in the best possible condition. Under limited supervision, you will be responsible for preventative and demand maintenance and repair of the hybrid fiber coax network (HFC), including all of its associated equipment in accordance with the company’s Engineering Standards and Network Protection Policy. You will also identify, troubleshoot and resolve HFC network reliability and integrity issues. The Maintenance Tech III will collaborate with other departments, as well as mentor System Technicians.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM 

Required Qualifications 

  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
  • Employee record in good standing with no corrective action in past six months
  • Minimum of one year in role
  • Endorsement from supervisor
  • Display appropriate demeanor, appearance and interactive skills
  • One year minimum score card rating of "3"
  • Advanced knowledge of RF, AC, DC
  • Experience: 1+ year Advanced System Technician or equivalent work experience, including maintenance of HFC plant including coax splicing, sweep and certification, power supply maintenance, fiber optic node optimization and fiber optic cable splicing
  • Understanding of HFC network architecture, outside plant construction standards, optical network design, FCC technical regulatory requirements (i.e., CLI and Proof of Performance)
  • Education:  High School diploma or equivalent work experience,   
  • Skills: Communication, multi-tasking, attention to detail, problem solving, customer service  
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to work independently
    • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
    • Ability to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as gaffs, safety harness and ladders) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipment
    • Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices
    • Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder (approx. 32 ft high and 90 pounds)
    • Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as needed
    • Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires
    • Ability to dig in all types of soil to bury cable
    • Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting
    • Ability to operate computer, software applications and test equipment associated with position
    • Ability to perform job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs)
    • Ability to use hand tools; ability to use propane torch
    • Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including gaffs, ladders, and fully loaded tool belts
    • Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time
    • Ability to work with small components and wires to make cable connections
    • Ability to splice, activate and test coax and fiber plant
    • Ability to understand and complete basic pole framing and HFC pole transfers
  • Valid Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards

The base pay for this position generally is between $22.95 and $40.65. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
