How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Lead editorial direction and strategy for original long-form news coverage on YouTube, digital, linear, social and podcast platforms
  • Direct, mentor and inspire teams of producers and editors to consistently deliver compelling, accurate and timely stories
  • Oversee the production of special coverage and breaking news, ensuring seamless collaboration and operational excellence across teams
  • Develop, implement and refine innovative storytelling techniques and workflows to maximize audience engagement and reach
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, proactively developing contingency plans to address shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align content initiatives with Spectrum’s overall news strategy and objectives
  • Champion a high standard of quality and creativity, motivating teams to continually raise the bar for journalistic excellence

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM NEWS

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:Management experience - 3+ years, experience as a senior or unit producer at a news station - 5+ years
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism
  • Technical skills:Ability to work on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives
  • Skills:Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization, ability to think strategically and anticipate future trends, needs and expectations, ability to work under time pressure deadlines
  • Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community
  • Schedule: Ability to work various shifts, longer shifts, weekends and holidays, and be flexible with schedule changes due to "breaking news", and/or severe weather emergencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

Working Conditions:

  • Works primarily inside a climate-controlled environment throughout the year but might be assigned field duties on occasion
  • Requires long periods of personal computer use and telephone communications
  • Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment
  • Communicates in person, by phone and by email
  • Works different shifts or longer shifts due to "breaking news" and severe weather emergencies. Willing and able to work weekends and holidays
  • Materials and equipment used: various studio and newsgathering television equipment, computers and computer-related equipment
  • Sits for long periods of time
  • Must be able to distinguish colors and discern sounds
  • May be required to lift up to 5 pounds

The base pay for this position generally is between $96,300.00 and $205,100.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
