EMPLOYER: Charter Communications, Inc.
TITLE: Principal Engineer I
DUTIES: Responsible for the implementation of approved network architecture and designs through hands on involvement in network planning, network architecture design and engineering. Contribute to the design of corporate standards and development of network enhancements. Work on projects/systems/issues of varying complexity surrounding network planning, configuration, and optimization. Lead project teams that maintain and improve network operations. Provides tier support across the Network Operations organization. Integrate communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission, and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations. Evaluate new products and perform network problem resolution. Participate in the development and documentation of technical standards and implement approved methods of procedure. Act as a mentor to junior staff. Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations. Proactively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience. Work with routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, and ISIS. Perform network optimization through network design, network architecture protocols, and network topology. Work with switching technologies, including VLANs, STP, and multi-layer switching. Work with TCP/IP and OSI model for layer1/layer2/layer3 troubleshooting. Create and detail steps in a Method of Procedure (MOP). Utilize Charter internal resources such a COIN, Remedy, and JIRA. Seek information from vendor specific Subject Matter Experts (SME). Create a Change ticket utilizing Remedy per Charter process & procedures. Create JIRA tickets per Charter process & procedures to notify all partner departments, as well as to track work being performed. Log into Charters IP network equipment for the purposes of engineering changes to provision per the MOP. Assist on break fix issues that require specialized knowledge of networking.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering (any) or a related technical field. 5 years of experience: with routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, and ISIS; in performing network optimization through network design, network architecture protocols, and network topology; working with switching technologies, including VLANs, STP, and multi-layer switching; and experience with TCP/IP and OSI model for layer1/layer2/layer3 troubleshooting.
A hybrid (office and remote) work arrangement is available.
SALARY: $161,158 - $196,400 per year
HOURS: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (40+ hours/week)

Salaries depend on geography, experience, and education; negotiations begin at $161,158 per year.

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
