Principal Engineer I
Are you ready to drive engineering activities that will take Spectrum’s Data Science, Analytics, and IT Operations knowledge to new heights? As a Principal Engineer I, you will support driving the efficiency of a high-volume, highly available AIOps solution that will help transform the way we drive satisfaction by leveraging AI/ML solutions to provide insights into where problems are occurring and automating fix actions.
In this role, you will be part of that transformation – you will apply data science, analytics, and IT operations knowledge to help expand this solution and drive overall operational efficiency. Key skills include the ability to extract information from a broad set of teams, design the methods to acquire key data, outline methods for anomaly detection, and work with the broader team to ensure the final product is delivered.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Responsibilities include designing, deploying, managing, and ensuring stability of the application and platform ecosystem and related back-office infrastructure and data centers to provide network security, high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability to support mission critical business effectively and efficiently systems
- Demonstrates a high level of competence in IT operations, application monitoring, deployment and configuration management, availability and performance optimization, capacity management and forecasting, cloud computing, datacenter operations troubleshooting critical issues, and coordination of implementation
- Conducts design sessions with engineers/architects to understand data sources and design data acquisition and enrichment approach
- Design, implement, monitor, enhance and troubleshoot systems in assigned areas
- Test and review system designs
- Mentor and guide the work of junior engineers within and beyond Ops Intelligence Team
- Manages the AIOps Platform, including validation of new releases and configuration of internal monitoring
- Drives data integrity and standardization and uses this in correlation of alerts
- Define, test and implement anomaly detection approach.
- Research and identify technology opportunities and their application focusing on delivering value to the overall business.
- Develops high-level requirements for new platform capabilities.
- Review work plans and design and advise on improvements
- Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable
- Know, understand and follow company policy

What You’ll Bring to Spectrum
Required Qualifications
- Education: Master’s or bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
- Experience:
- 5+ years engineering work experience
- 5+ years project management work experience
- Skills:
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
- Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
- Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
- Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances
- Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio
- Ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
- Ability to use personal computer and software applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Education:
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
- Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)
- Master or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience. May require Industry Standard Certifications
- Experience:
- 3+ Years Application, System, or Server Administration work exposure
- 4+ Years AI/ML experience
- 4+ Years Application Development, Integration, and Support work experience
- 4+ Years Database Support, Query Development, and ETL work experience
- 5+ Years Data Pipeline and Analysis work experience
- 4+ Years Cable or telecom development and/or operations experience
- Skills:
- Knowledge of Spectrum products and services
- Communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straightforward, and professional manner
- Capable of learning full suite of applications and describing the data flows between applications
- Advanced knowledge of OSI stack and application architectures
- Systems knowledge (Linux, Unix)
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Advanced ability to conduct design sessions and create detailed documentation for new and existing applications
- Advanced ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures
- Advanced ability to troubleshoot application problems
- In-depth knowledge of development tools, application frameworks, and testing tools.
- Basic knowledge of operations systems supports applications and software
- In-depth knowledge of choosing the appropriate lifecycle and the planning, monitoring and control of the systems engineering process
- Strong ability to transform an operational need into a description of system parameters and incorporate those parameters in the control of the total system development to achieve an optimum, cost-effective balance of all system elements

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,660.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
