The base pay for this position generally is between $110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.

Are you ready to lead a high-performing front-end engineering team in creating innovative customer experiences for Spectrum’s digital platforms? As Principal Software Engineer I, you can prioritize, develop, and deliver impactful features while mentoring other engineers. You will assess needs, time constraints, and system limitations in software development, staying current on new technologies and practices to ensure your team's success.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Contribute to the technical direction, execution and final decisions for all software solutions created (includes information architecture, software architecture, software design, testing, automation, analytics and instrumentation).
- Design, implement, monitor, enhance and troubleshoot systems in assigned areas.
- Write code and integrate packages (software/application), and writing supporting test cases: (e.g. unit, devtest, automation) for various project assignments and provide recommendations to peer review coding sessions.
- Create custom embedded linux distributions leveraging OpenWRT, or Ubuntu and tools such as Yocto.
- Understand and adhere to Spectrum coding best practices and principles when developing or integrating code as well as when conducting code reviews.
- Bring a sense of urgency to ensuring Jira ticket / and confluence documentation hygiene.
- Be curious, and relentless in pursuit of solutioning; analyze and revise existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.

- Maintain subject matter expertise in embedded Linux software programming in language C, domain architecture, industry tools and trends in order to give strategic recommendation and provide technical support to these areas as needed.
- Utilize GitLab pipelines; create and run ansible playbooks.
- Manage high performing teams by leading, developing, training, hiring, and providing effective coaching to attract and foster talent
- Regularly attending team meetings to discuss projects, brainstorm ideas, and put forward solutions to issues including web and app development and testing
- Estimate scope of work, develop, document, and make technical decisions on software development projects
- Keep current with trends and technological innovations in the industry in order to contribute to the execution of proofs-of-concept for new approaches
- Collaborate with leadership and key stakeholders to define and develop technology strategy, technology standards, roadmaps, and practices
- Participate in collaborations with business and technical teams to review conflicts/gaps between functional goals and existing capabilities
- Adhere to best practices for code development, version control, continuous integration/delivery, and test/build automation
- Comfortable defining and evangelizing mobile app and web technologies across the organization

- Thorough understanding of software engineering and object-oriented design principles.
- Demonstrated in-depth and knowledge of front-end development across Java, mobile app and/or web technologies.

- Ability to keep current with trends and technological innovations in the industry in order to contribute to the execution of proofs-of-concept for new approaches.

- Familiarity with dependency management and build systems like Maven and Ant.
- Experience working with open-source software such as Spring, Google Guice, Guava, Tomcat, and NoSQL solutions.
- Java, Spring, Google Guice, JPA/Hibernate, Databases (Relational and NoSQL), RESTful web services, AWS, Micro services, Netflix OSS, Jersey, SOAP web services, Axis, JMS, ESB’s, XML, XSD, XSL, JSON, HTML5, JavaScript, Apache open-source libraries, Maven, Git, Eclipse/NetBeans/IntelliJ, continuous integration testing, shell scripting, Ruby.
- Hands on approach.
- Embedded software engineering experience in Linux/C/Rust.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
