The base pay for this position generally is between $00 and $00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
Position Schedule: Sunday-Thursday 12:00AM-8:30AM
The purpose of this position is to maintain the transportation and distribution portions of the Maui cable television system.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
- Performs FSM calibration and repairs system problems (i.e. power supplies, active and passive devices, and cable).
- Applies working knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in performing FSM calibration.
- Utilizes working knowledge of system plant.
- Uses various tools and equipment proficiently. These include but are not limited to: screwdrivers, pliers, sweep systems, ladders, shovels and various test meters.
- Repairs and replaces strand, lashing, pole line transfers and general construction.
- Utilizes working knowledge of system plant.
- Applies working knowledge of cable strand, pole line transfers and general construction.
- Climbs poles to perform line transfers.
- Uses various tools and equipment proficiently. These include but are not limited to: screwdrivers, pliers, sweep systems, ladders, shovels and various test meters.
- Monitors, repairs and maintains an ongoing leakage program.
- Utilizes and applies working knowledge of CLI leakage requirements.
- Use of various tools and equipment proficiently, which includes, leakage detection equipment, signal analysis meters and sweep systems.
- Maintains and stocks necessary materials and tools for company vehicle.
- Organizes materials, tools, and equipment.
- Utilizes thorough knowledge of materials needed to maintain system plant.
- Lifts and carries up to 75 pounds.
- Recognizes, practices, and enforces safety rules and procedures when performing technical tasks.
- Applies working knowledge of safety rules and procedures.
- Wears safety apparel which includes: hard hats (where required) and proper footwear.
- Reports all unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries, verbally and in writing, to the Maintenance Technician Leadman and Technical Operations Manager.
- Performs field alignment and sweep testing of outside plant.
- Uses sweep system equipment.
- Recognize and comply with all safety policies of the company and federal/state regulations.
- Able to operate all equipment in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Able to work in constricted spaces and positions involving crouching, squatting and/or kneeling.
- Agility to climb up and down ladders and/or gaff poles.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Supervises and trains other technical personnel, when necessary.
- Speaks in a clear and concise manner when providing instruction to other technical personnel.
- Utilizes thorough working knowledge of cable system plant.
- Executes bench repairs, modulator repairs, field modules and microwave line maintenance.
- Utilizes thorough working knowledge of minor troubleshooting and repairs to modulators, file modules and microwave line.
- Uses various tools and equipment proficiently. These include but are not limited to: screwdrivers, pliers, sweep systems, ladders, shovels and various test meters.
- Performs on-call duties during non-business hours and in the event of a system outage.
- Quickly responds and troubleshoots system outage.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a very high level
- Drives, lifts, carries equipment, and climbs poles, ladders, and towers. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of various tools, equipment and radio. Must have good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Thorough knowledge of signal level, mechanical aptitude, meters, volt-ohm meters, sweep systems, amplifiers, power supplies, bench alignment gear, DVM, VOM, signal leakage detection equipment and various other troubleshooting devices. Working knowledge of city and map reading, radio procedures, as well as first aid and CPR. Must have valid Hawaii driver’s license and an acceptable driving abstract.
- Stable employment history.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required plus Installation and Service Technician Training Requirements. – per CBA
Related Work Experience and Number of Years
- Requires a minimum of three years experience as a Service Technician.
Working Conditions
- Has extensive contact with technical and office personnel, customers, and general public. Has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Company vehicle, various sized tools and equipment.
- These include but are not limited to: screwdrivers, pliers, shovels, ladders, test meters, TDR, sweep systems, bench alignment gear, signal analysis meters, DVM, VOM, locating equipment, leakage detection equipment, etc., two-way radio, Aventeck and Wavetek systems.
- May operate company bucket truck.
- Lifts and carries up to 75 pounds, digs, crawls, stoops, and stands.
- Climbs on ladders, telephone poles, and towers.
- Works outside throughout the year.
- Works in various weather and conditions which could be extreme hot or cold conditions.
- May drive for long periods of time.
