The Director of Business Intelligence is responsible for driving data vision, strategy, execution, as well as ensuring that business intelligence goals and technology investments are aligned with the company's mission, strategy, and objectives. This is role in charge of directing a dedicated team of data professionals that ideate and deliver data and analytics roadmap across the full lifecycle: collection, synthesis, insight, and application, with the goal of driving business success. As the subject matter expert within the organization, this function is accountable for strategic thought leadership outwards into the organization (both process and technology) with a particular focus on internal reporting and analysis solutions. This position is responsible for hiring and training new employees, conducting performance reviews, and providing leadership and mentoring, as well as technical and personal development programs for team members.

This leader will oversee the full ingestion-to-access pipeline for customer usage data across Video, Internet, Voice, and Mobile—owning upstream integration, data standardization, aggregation, quality, lineage, and governed accessibility. This role will be responsible for ensuring data is accurate, timely, and enterprise-ready for internal reporting and analytics. The outputs directly inform multi-billion-dollar programming decisions and provide the context to put any corporate metric into perspective.


  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Own upstream integration and standardization of customer usage data (Video, Internet, Voice, Mobile) from source systems into curated, enterprise-ready datasets and aggregates with defined SLAs, lineage, and auditability.
  • Establish and enforce governance for usage data in alignment with BI Data Governance policy, including KPI stewardship with business leadership, change control, metric validation, and communication of updates through established processes.
  • Develop and maintain the Business Intelligence portfolio and roadmap, seeking periodic input from a Steering Committee made up of key business owners / executives.
  • Own the successful implementation of business intelligence technologies, architecture, and business-driven information delivery strategies to expose the overall customer experience with Charter’s various business processes across the organization.
  • Own user experience design selecting and implementing appropriate visualization/analytical tools to allow easy end-user consumption of complex processes.
  • Maintain governance of data exposed in support of process analytics to ensure relevant facts are captured in a relatable and consistent manner.
  • Champion adoption of business intelligence systems/tools/processes where appropriate.
  • Partner with senior leadership on the continuing transformation of Charter into a data and analytics driven organization.
  • Lead a high-performing development and vertical leader team recruiting, training, coaching and developing effective leaders and staff positioned on the bleeding edge of technologies and best practices supporting the customer journey.
  • Ensure the vertical leaders are providing forward looking insight into the future performance of the business, leveraging expert knowledge of business intelligence capabilities and deep familiarity with business trends to help business leaders identify opportunities and threats.
  • Ensure teams have appropriate support to meet goals and ensure that project risks are identified, mitigated and communicated to stakeholders.
  • Oversee data management and data governance within Charter development teams and maintenance of business intelligence best practices, including maintenance of centralized business term definitions.
  • Complete monthly executive summaries of business intelligence accomplishments / issues and more generally communicate progress with other technology leaders.
  • Prioritize initiatives with a keen eye toward business impact.
  • Create the process and capabilities to feed actionable insights back into departments for continued learning, iteration, and action.
  • Identify opportunities for data-driven applications that could measurably improve the customer experience and the business’s efficiency through automation and machine learning.
  • Instill and reinforce a strong customer service and business-oriented ethic in the entire team.

Required:

Progressively increased responsbilities in business intelligence, data analytics or equivalent level of related experience - 10+ years

Experience in people management and team leadership - 8 +

Experience leading and delivering complex technology engagements with resources in multiple locations - 5+

Demonstrated expertise in identifying opportunities and assisting with ROI/business case development - 3+

Business acumen to understand what needs to happen in order to support business objectives

Subject matter expertise in how video networks and digital content are distributed (linear and streaming/OTT) and how programming lineups/feeds relate to usage collection and aggregation

Strong understanding of how viewership and usage data is collected and standardized from upstream partners and internal platforms (e.g., set-top/app playback logs, broadband usage records, mobile/app usage) and how these sources are mediated, normalized, and mapped into conformed business definitions and aggregates.

Deep understanding of process analytics and leading process mining tools and concepts in the market

Deep understanding and appreciation for both business and technology components of information strategy

Deep knowledge of data and how to apply that data

Demonstrated communication skills to get the buy-in needed to get everyone else pulling in the same direction with abilities to negotiate and defuse conflict

Demonstrable history of influencing others through consensus building in a cross functional / matrix environment

Consistent history of leading people and projects to a successful and high impact outcome Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal

Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative team-building, recruiting, and talent management skills are essential

Result-driven individual, highly creative, innovative, and analytical
Highly organized with demonstrated ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects and meet tight deadlines

Demonstrated management and leadership skills with a proactive participative management style

Required Education: 

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field or related work experience

Office Requirement:

Four days in office/one day remote
