As a member of the Employment Law Team, you will provide the highest quality legal support to the Employment Law Team’s clients, which include our human resources organization, our various business unit partners, and company management, on a full range of federal, state, and local employment law issues.
BE PART OF THE CONNECTION
Charter’s Legal Department is looking for a talented attorney to join its Employment Law Team, a dynamic and quality-oriented legal team. This attorney will provide legal advice to Charter’s human resources and business partners on a wide range of employment law issues such as performance management, disciplinary decisions, disability accommodations, investigations, wage and hour practices, and pre-employment decisions. This attorney will also develop and conduct training, and manage the defense of employment-related litigation. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, self-motivated, solutions driven, a strategic thinker, and able to independently and effectively manage functional areas of responsibility.
Actively and consistently support the Company’s business efforts
Manage the Company’s defense of employment-related litigation, including formulating legal strategy, overseeing outside counsel, analyzing litigation trends and identifying mitigation opportunities
Identify, interpret, and communicate effectively to stakeholders, applicable changes in laws, rulings, and regulations
Represent the Company in legal and regulatory proceedings
Evaluate existing policies and procedures, and provide applicable training for the Company
Support various business units by assessing legal risk and providing legal solutions to business issues
Meet with business clients and third-parties
Answer questions from business units concerning legal topics related to assigned area
Negotiate, review, or draft pleadings, correspondence, and agreements
Keep informed of industry-specific statutes and regulations and ensure that appropriate risk management strategies are formulated and followed
Work with attorneys in other legal practice areas to proactively identify and address key legal issues for management
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; active membership to State Bar in which attorney practices
Experience: 7+ years experience in employment-related litigation defense and advising corporate clients
In-depth knowledge of California employment law
Skills/Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization; ability to think strategically and anticipate future trends, needs and expectations; ability to provide practical and sound legal advice; strong business planning and forecasting skills; strong analytic, organizational, and problem solving skills; strong team and relationship building skills
Ability to travel 20-30% of time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with employment arbitration hearings and jury trials
Class action experience preferred
