Curious about shaping the backbone of data-driven decisions at Spectrum? As a Database Engineer, you will design and optimize both logical and physical data models, ensuring the reliability and performance of our databases. You will implement and maintain critical production environments while adhering to precise standards and procedures. Your expertise will help Spectrum deliver seamless and secure data solutions across the organization, driving impactful business outcomes.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Creation and maintenance of physical and logical database models according to the business requirements including distributed database cluster models using real time parallel processing
- Install, configure and maintain High Availability (Patroni, Etcd, HA Proxy, Data Guard etc.) server solutions
- Perform database engineering and administration tasks, including design/modeling, SQL and script development, SQL and database tuning, data migrations, backups and recoveries, software installations and upgrades, and DBA management (including after-hours when needed)
- Create, configure, and maintain all production data warehouses, databases, ETL/ELT jobs and processes, and all associated data architecture
- Develop, and implement data transformations using ETL/ELT processes and/or tasks and stored procedures within the data warehouse
- Minimize data warehouse and data pipeline downtime and scheduled ETL/ELT job failures and manages parameters to provide fast query responses
- Build processes in an automated, templated, repeatable fashion to increase reusability and predictable data pipeline behavior
- Creation of standard operational procedures and templates. Maintain virtual and physical data storage. Maintain access and security policy administration
- Maintain the OEM monitoring and diagnostics tool and identifies/resolves performance issues. Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies on Database Management Systems
- Troubleshoot alerts (alert log, Jobs, Disk Group, Tablespace etc.) and performance issues. Performs database performance tuning tasks

What You’ll Bring to Spectrum
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS or related field or equivalent work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience
- 3+ years of experience working with production data warehouses in a database administration role, and/or database management systems of moderate complexity in testing, implementation, maintenance and administration
Skills
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
- Knowledge of database architecture and its implementation
- Expert knowledge of PL/SQL programming language
- Demonstrated knowledge of instance, database and query task, and ETL/ELT process tuning and optimization to improve performance at all steps of data pipeline
- Demonstrated understanding of Disaster Recovery (DR) methodologies
- Demonstrated knowledge of Windows/Linux/Solaris operating systems and shell scripting
- Demonstrated understanding of Change Management procedures
- Demonstrated understanding of best practices in maintaining medium to large scale Linux database systems
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management and company personnel
- Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks; prioritize and organize effectively
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
- Ability to show judgment and initiative and to accomplish job duties
- Ability to use personal computer and software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, etc.)
- Ability to work independently or with others to resolve problems, handle requests or situations
- Ability to effectively consult with department managers and leaders
Preferred Qualifications
Experience
- 2+ years of database administration experience
- Strong experience with Python, JSON, Rest API or Data Extract APIs
- Extensive experience with data workflow/data prep platforms, such as NiFi, Knime, or Talend
- Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
- Strong experience receiving, converting, and cleansing big data
- Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
- Experience with Cloud platforms and Cloud services such as AWS (S3, Glue, EMR, Redshift, Athena)
- Experience with process-scheduling/orchestration products such as Apache Airflow, AWS Data Pipelines, or Azure Data Factory
- Ability to create proof of concept experiments for analytics, machine learning, and visualization tools that include hypothesis, test plans, and outcome analysis
Skills
- Knowledge of database architecture and its implementation (Postgres preferred)
